This is one of my favourite places in this city. Not because of the fabulous food (food is okay), not because of the fabulous wine selection (they don't have that either), but because it is has the coziest patio in this city.

On a summer day, sitting under umbrellas on a raised patio with some girl friends, chatting about nothing and everything, eating light seafood pastas, margherita pizzas, calamari, away from the city noise while still being in the middle of Kensington - well - very few experiences can match it.

Oh, now the cat's out of the bag. I'll have to share my patio now.

I have been to very few restaurants where the entire menu sounds appetizing! There are incredible options for the vegetarian, vegan, and those who can't eat dairy or gluten. As I personally enjoy dairy, my grilled cheese sandwich was fantastic, although the cheese could have been a little less runny. My salad on the side was ideal, with a homemade balsamic dressing (no nasty bottled dressings here!), and had a variety of veggies in the salad.

The vanilla milkshake made with sorbetto and almond milk is my new favorite indulgence.

I will be back, without a doubt, as the prices were really reasonable, the atmosphere was pleasant, the servers were friendly, and the food was fresh and tasty!

After reading the reviews I had to write in to add another opinion.
My husband and I love this pizza.
We are very familiar with European pizzas and much prefer them so there is our bias.

I love the thin crust, the light tomato sauce, the sprigs of basil and oregano. Some call the flavor "burnt" but I would not say that at all. It is cooked in an extremely hot wood fired oven at about a million degrees so it may have a bit of a scorched edge but it is wood flavored not burnt.

I love anchovies so my favorite is the Romana. They added a few black olives and I would say it was perfect.

I cannot remember my husband's favorite but he has an egg added to the top and he thinks that is great. (I am not a fan of this but he loves it and it is quite common in Europe.)

The atmosphere is not overly cozy but the wine list is good (decent chianti classico in the half litre) and the service is great.

We will go back again and again!!

Staying for a few days solo in kensington this was a great find. Seating is set up around a bar and small private tables. The seats at the bar overlook the chefs at work churning out sophisticated small plate meals on a single cooktop. The meals are creative fusion dishes priced and sized to allow one to sample 2 or 3 if hungry or just one if a light meal will suffice. For example I ordered PEI mussels served with chorizo and potato in a brandy cream broth followed by a duck confit accompanied by savoury pancakes and red current jam. Both of these were excellent but i could easily have ordered another half dozen of the dishes on offer if i had space. The wine list is great, the coffee and dessert are great and the staff are friendly and casual. Furthermore the relaxed atmosphere makes this a good location for meeting someone if you happen to be single. Don't miss a visit to the winebar if you are visiting Calgary.

Seeing as Koki and Steve have been in the sushi business for over 20 years it is not surprising that the sushi is perfect and that the quality is top tier. What was surprising was their choice of oysters. They bring in THE BEST Kumamoto oysters that I have ever had - yes you may have had them in other oyster bars, but trust me - these are rank above!

I decided to try this place out after reading the good reviews found here. I have to say I was a bit disappointed by the service and the value. We split 3 creative specialty rolls & gyoza between the two of us. We waited almost 30 mins & when the first roll came, we realised the rolls only had 4 pcs each (despite costing between $10-$14 each). We wanted to add more to our order, but the server came by the tell us that it would take another 20-40 mins to add anything else. So we just left half full. Though the quality of the sushi was pretty good, I was unimpressed by the service & value. I will just stay with my usual fav spots next time I feel like sushi.

Between me and my friends, the first rule of Sushi Club has always been: Don't talk about Sushi Club!

Now, I'm breaking my silence: this place is fantastic.

Probably the best, most consistently good, sushi in town. No gimmicks, no outlandish rolls lathered in too muh sauce to hide inferior fish. Just regular sized maki and nigiri that make you focus more on the quality of the fish, rather than the quantitiy, like the many overpriced spots found around town. Their hot dishes and appetizers are also first class and authentic.

In true Japanese tradition, I've decided to share my favorite sushi spot with you, lucky readers of Chomp!

Appetizer of Beef Carpaccio was AMAZING. The best I've ever had. Service was a bit slow off the start, but improved as the night went on. Reasonably priced menu and wine list. Some dishes were a bit unexpected... the shrimp ball explosion to be specific... but all in all a great dinner! (And we're a pretty picky crew, so that's saying a LOT). And all 5 of us had to take a tour of the ladies room to check out the coolest sink/taps we'd ever seen :)

The food was good but to rich and fattening for my taste buds and waistline. Waiter moved so fast and started pouring wine, asked for the wine list repeatedly. Wound up we paid $75 per bottle of wine - not even sure that we drank the two bottles as the bottles were not left at the table. There were only four of us that had the wine. Just felt like we had been suckered by the slick waiter. Will not be going back!

Recently a girlfriend and I had the chance to pop into Winebar Kensington. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated famously.

Sitting at the bar, we were anxious to have a good glass of wine to let us unwind from our busy week. We were not disappointed. After talking with Jeff about the wine list, he smartly recommended a glass of 2005 Monastrell/Tempranillo from Valencia, Spain. While deciding on the cheese plate, the smells of different creations from the open kitchen were making our mouths water. If you decide to come to Winebar Kensington, you have to order the cheese plate. The goat gouda was amazing paired with the pineapple coconut compote. Fascinated by the features listed on the board, we ordered the duck ravioli and were absolutely blown away! In addition, we ordered the grilled olive oil flatbread with basil pesto, bocconcini, prosciuttino. Every bite was amazing! It was hard to stop eating. We finally ended with the lip smacking honey semifreddo, caramel nut crunch with espresso cream for dessert which was the perfect finish to a great evening.

The whole experience was lovely. The cuisine is exquisite, the staff is very sincere and personable and the atmosphere was inviting. I can’t wait to go back!

I was so looking forward to this being a great pizza destination in Calgary, sadly it didn't make the grade. The service was good, but the food was really bland. My pizza had a slathering of plain tomato sauce topped with a sparse layer of mushrooms and melted cheese. I'm thinking a frozen pizza from Superstore might have beaten my dinner in a taste test. This was my second time to Pulcinella. The atmosphere is nice but the food is overpriced for what you get and most importantly the service was really unacceptable. We sat for a good 15 minute before acknowledged by a server which was understandable since it was friday night and the place was packed. But we had to wait about an hour for our pizza which was literally just sauce with ham and mozza cheese on top and very burnt at the bottom and crust. Not only was the food came out slow, the server didn't come once to check on us until we were done eating. My friend and I were furious and complained to the manager who in the end took pizza off the bill (which wasn't our intention) but didn't even say sorry to us. He even seemed upset that we were complaining. The experience completely ruined our night.

Another great reason to go to Kensington! I live in the area and this is my first time at the Broken Plate. We had no reservation, and Gus our host made us feel right at home from start to finish. It is such a nice atmoshpere inside. Bright, clean, and Greek without seeming over themed. There where a lot of windows which added to the bright and comfortable atmosphere. The Greek Chicken Wrap was very tasty and perfectly balanced. My friend had the Lamb Burger which was such a nice change from beef. All ingredients where fresh as you can get and each lunch choice came with fries and greek salad. Portion size was very generous and the prices were very appropriate for lunch. Gus, our host was so friendly and eagar to please. My friend and I felt welcome as soon as we pulled up to the menu on the outside of the business. The food was so fresh with well balanced tastes. I had remembered having Greek coffee many years ago and was looking forward to trying it again. There was nothing wrong, just not to my liking. I had the old standby of brewed coffee after trying the Greek version of a triple espresso. Our lunch was extremely tasty and beautifully presented. I would suggest that anyone that likes Greek food will be very happy to find this gem in Kensington. Thank you for your professionalism Gus!

Globefish is great for sushi. The new space is stylish and spacious, and I never seem to have to wait too long for a table or my food during the lunch rush. My only real complaint is that they aren't open on Mondays! I like to start my meal off with some Miso Soup or Prawn Sunomono Salad. The tempura is nice, although maybe a little greasy for my taste. As someone who isn't a fan of the popular California roll, I love the more adventurous sushi at Globefish. I recommend the Sushi Pizza (Baked rice pizza squares with avocado, scallops, salmon and tobiko), the Crunch n' Munch Roll (Prawn tempura, cucumber & tobiko roll wrapped with unagi & avocado. Served with unagi sauce & wasabi creamy sauce), the Rapture Roll (Prawn tempura, tobiko and cucumber roll wrapped with spicy mix (salmon & tuna). Served with green onion, unagi sauce & spicy sauce) and many more. The special rolls at Globefish contain ingredients like soft shell crab, lobster, mango, and many are drizzled in delicious sauce. Definitely worth trying!
