While no one is going to confuse Yummy Yummy with a top flight restaurant like the Silver Dragon downtown it does put out a decent quality product and is right in the neighbourhood in the deep south of the city. They have a small dining room but for me I use them primarily for takeout. I am especially found of their Chicken Chop Suey.

This place used to be quite good, but it has waned a bit in recent years. Take the salad for instance, they used to serve a major portion but now it's a little plate. The food is decent but it was once better, which is guess why I don't visit as much anymore.

The Fish Cafe on 41st Ave in Vancouver is bare none my favorite place for lunch. A nice piece of grilled red snapper or whatever else is fresh that day tastes great. The Saffaron rice on the side is simply magnificient. The fish and chips cannot be beat. The locals know about this hidden jewel and if you try it you will be hooked too. When in Vancouver this place is must visit for me.

I've visited the Keg Downtown on Hornby many times while on business in Vancouver. While a Keg is a Keg is a Keg pretty much, this is a cut above some of them I have seen. I usually have a NY Strip and it has always been good. A little pricey as the Keg tends to be but it's a nice location in the heart of downtown.

The Chesire Cheese is a British Style pub in the Kerrisdale area that provides a nice island away from the insanity. They do a good rendition of my favorite british dish, bangers and mash. After a long day of the nose to the ground stone, that hits the spot bigtime. I'd love to go again right now. We've had a quite a few group get togethers here as well, and there were very accomodating and the service was good.

This is the place where I first encountered the wonderful joy that is Nando's Flame Grilled Chicken. I could have this every day. The taste is simply wonderful. I like the way they do their baked potatoes as well. Love it, Love it, Love it, drolling on my keyboard right now.

Friends had told me to visit this place so I did. It certainly seemed busy everytime I walked by. But I don't really get it, the food is well how do say this, calorie megnormous. If you are looking for Fries and a burger you might want to try this place but if you are not looking to add a few pounds you might want to go elsewhere. It's one of those places that locals have been going to for years and love it for it's quirks, but if you just walked in off the street you might think twice. The double dog is a house speciality.

Living in the immediate area I seem to be drawn back to Caffe Crema. It was little different this time as I was lucky enough to attend a private party at the place. It was catered by Black Apron catering with whom they have a special arrangment. Black apron apparently does a lot of their daily food offerings as well from what I understand. Anyways there were a number of courses, the food and presentation were fantastic, And the personal service from the caterers was top notch. It was topped off with some great coffee, one of the advantages of being at Caffe Crema. Yes Christmas came early year it and it tasted good.

This review is not about the food. The food at Swiss Chalet is pretty much the same everywhere. What this review is about is bad service. This was the second time I visited this location in the mid afternoon. I usually give a place 3 strikes before I cross them off the list but they used all 3 strikes in one go. The service was virtually non-existent, at time expect for the customers the place looked deserted. It was a forever wait to order, to get your food, and to pay. Completely unacceptable and I will not return. If you want to go to Swiss Chalet you will find superior service at the one on Macleod Trail south.

Went back to Caffe Cream for lunch today. And lo and behold they my personal favorite, Beef Barley soup on the menu today. This was no mere soup, this was Soup of the Gods. Easily one of the best Beef Barley soups I have ever had. It was spiced just perfectly. Usually I dump a ton of pepper into a soup but this perfect all by itself. I will definitely be having this again, and again.

The food at Fatburger is good, no doubt about that. The burgers and sides are certainly a step up from your local "would you like fries with that" same as everybody else burger place. But won't I don't get is the high prices. I just can't justify spending that much money for fast food, it doesn't compute for me.

I've visited Regency Palace in the downtown many times. It is my favorite Chinese food buffet in the city bar none. Now if I want top notch Chinese food I will go to the Silver Dragon and have a regular sit down dinner but at lunch looking to save time, Regency can't be beat. The selection is huge, and also real good across the board.

I had the pleasure of becoming hooked on Nando's flame grilled chicken in Vancouver and was quite delighted when I saw we finally had one in Calgary. For a Chicken experience it is simply the best. I recommend the Medium spice for people to new to this establishment. For those who like the heat, Hot spice will be sure to please. Given the choice between Nando's Chicken and the best steak in the city I will choose Nando's every time, it is simply that good.

Having spent much time in Vancouver I was very famliar with this B.C. based chain. I found a very nice place whereever I went in Van at the White spot so was looking forward to trying it in Calgary. What I found was disappointing. It bore little resemblence in food or service quality to what I had come to expect from the White Spot. Will not return. I'm sorry I had recommended friends try it.

My favorite pizza in the entire world was at the old Gus's Pizza in the North Hill mall in the 80's. It was this big thick cheese laden circle of joy. We practically lived on the stuff going through Sait. But with the Mall redevelopment the Gus we knew and loved was seemingly lost forever. Until now. I did a double take a while ago in the NW driving around when I saw a sign for Gus's. I could hardly believe my eyes so I stopped in. It's a second generation of the family now but it's same old family recipe. It may not touch the heavenly manna that Gus himself used to serve up but it's very close, and in my opinion the best in the city. I still remember what the old pizza stained menu we had used to say "To each his own, but leave the Pizza to Gus". It is as true today as it was then.

One of the most important things in a coffee house is being consistently good. So off I went again to try lunch at Caffe Crema. I decided on the Italian Panni sandwich. It really suprised me how good it was, it could be really addictive. And the french press coffee was still fantastic. Finished up with a big cinnamon bun that was very good. Overall lunch was very satisifying. This place is much more than just a coffee shop. I most also comment on the service. The staff are very friendly and really seem to be trying to do a good job for their customers, quite refreshing in that regard.

Love the food at the Silver Dragon, for my money the best Chinese food in this city. One of the most extensive menus as well. I think I am going to there right now.
